Metadata

One thing that too often goes overlooked in the music world today is metadata. Why do so many musicians who distribute their music digitally (usually in .mp3 format) neglect to include possibly useful information such as the genre, album, BPM, contact information or even the *artist name* with the file?

What good does it do an unsigned artist to give away their music for free if the person they're giving it to might never remember who gave it to them? I can respect it if you're the kind of person who REALLY doesn't care about that sort of thing, but it seems far more likely to me that people just carelessly forget to include the information, or are possibly ignorant of the whole notion of metadata to begin with.
